Avery Arrested in L.A. for Battery

You know when Sean Avery makes the front page of the NY Post and NY Daily News in August, it probably isn't good news. And today, it wasn't.Avery was arrested early this morning after he shoved a L.A. police officer who tried to break up a party the former Vogue intern was throwing at his home in the Hollywood Hills. He was taken into custody and held on $20,000 bail. Avery allegedly called the officers "fat little pigs."According to TMZ, Avery initially shoved the officer and closed the door to his home before answering it after the officer knocked again. He was cooperative with authorities after the first initial encounter after the police threatened to break the door down.This has been an interesting summer for Avery. He made headlines early in the summer for his support of marriage equality in New York, which led to the firing of a Canadian broadcaster who attacked Avery for his beliefs.Earlier this week, Avery's former Ranger and Kings teammate Alex Frolov was quoted by a Russian newspaper claiming Avery used racial slurs against other players. Frolov has since denied the claims, saying he was misquoted.It will be interesting to see if this has any effect on Avery's chances of making the team this year. I don't believe it should, but Avery's tenuous relationship with head coach John Tortorella has been well documented.Update: According to Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record (N.J.), Avery can face a penalty of up to one-year in prison as well as a $2,000 fine.Follow Matt on Twitter @MattCalamiaTHW
